The issues of a joint vision and further activities in the field of human rights, gender equality, and combating domestic violence were discussed during a working meeting by Eugenia Melesh, lawyer of the Charitable Organisation "Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattia", Maryana Kolodiy, director of the Centre for Gender Education of Uzhhorod National University, and Tetyana Shcherba, senior inspector for special assignments, of the Human Rights Department of the National Police of Ukraine in the Transcarpathian region.

The participants raised the need to open institutions in the region where victims of domestic and gender-based violence could receive the necessary emergency and legal assistance, social services. It was also agreed to analyse the statistics of law enforcement agencies on cases of domestic violence, especially in those communities where these cases are registered the most. A number of meetings and trainings will be held on the issues of the legal protection of victims, legislative regulation of the establishment of specialised institutions for victims of domestic violence, and gender-based violence.

This is not the first meeting of experts, nor the first constructive dialogue. During the discussions, an agreement was reached to continue cooperation and organise a series of new joint advocacy activities that will help strengthen the role of women and ensure gender equality in law enforcement.
