The next destination for the mobile kitchen as part of the "Food Without Borders" project is Derhachi in the Kharkiv region. There, the team from the NGO "Iskra Dobra", together with their helpers, continue to feed people who have suffered as a result of enemy military attacks.
This time, to support the complex and costly process of operating the food truck, the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya, together with the Association SAFE (France), donated a truckload of disposable tableware to the NGO "Iskra Dobra". Our French partners learned about the possibility of obtaining these much-needed supplies and immediately thought of the humanitarian initiative "Food Without Borders". The lunch boxes were quickly sent to the base in Chernihiv, and from there they are already on their way to the food truck’s mission route.
"This was unexpected but extremely necessary assistance for the mobile kitchen to continue its work. We were just getting ready to move to a new location, making purchases, planning the next steps... The lunch boxes we received allowed us to save significantly and build up a stock of consumables, without which our daily work would simply be impossible. This is not the first time that the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya, the Association SAFE, and Jacques Duplessy himself have responded to requests for help in implementing our humanitarian projects, and this, of course, supports and inspires us, as does the position of our other partners, thanks to whom "Food Without Borders" has become possible", says Ihor Kukobko, head of the NGO "Iskra Dobra".
As Oleh Bibikov, chef of the food truck and co-founder of "Iskra Dobra", told us, work in the mobile kitchen is in full swing from early morning.
"We have already prepared 300 kg of porridge, over 200 kg of salad, and about 2,000 pieces of fried chicken. We are packing everything and getting ready for distribution. Here in the Kharkiv region, we have a lot of work to do. I don’t think there’s any point in explaining why. But we are used to it. I don't remember it ever being easy anywhere. However, when you see the benefits of your work, when you know that you are making life easier for someone in need, you feel like you are part of a large community of caring people, and all difficulties are overcome in the course of work", says Oleh Bibikov.
As a reminder, in March we reinforced the "Food Without Borders" mission with an additional vehicle, and previously donated a powerful generator to the food truck, with the help of the aforementioned Association SAFE. In addition, our friends from the Association "Network Switzerland – Transcarpathia / Ukraine" (NeSTU) (Switzerland) financially supported the purchase of food products for the preparation of hot meals, hundreds of thousands of portions of which have already been distributed to civilians affected by the war.
