The "Food Without Borders" project of the NGO "Iskra Dobra", which is supported by the Charitable Organization "Charity Fund "Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya" together with its partners, repeatedly proves the high demand for food support from the affected civilians.
The target groups of the mobile humanitarian kitchen are internally displaced persons, evacuees, residents of frontline settlements, as well as volunteers, rescuers, medics, police, and military personnel who are eliminating the consequences of enemy shelling. Unfortunately, not a single Ukrainian city is safe from russian terrorist attacks, and along with their regular work, the food truck team was involved in supporting people after the attacks on Poltava, Izyum, Sumy...
"Since the launch of the food mission, our team of cooks has prepared more than 172,000 portions of hot meals, almost 70,000 of which were served in Sumy. Yes, it is hard work and a great responsibility, we always worry about being on time, making sure that everyone has enough to eat and that it tastes good. We try to make the food varied and, most importantly, homemade, because in times of war, the feeling of home is especially valuable. Many of our beneficiaries were forced to leave their homes, some of them lost their homes altogether. Here, in the queue at the food truck, there is often such a concentration of grief and despair that it is not even a portion of food that is of greater value, but the fact of care and concern for a person in need", says Oleh Bibikov, the food truck’s chef and co-founder of the NGO "Iskra Dobra".
Often, the mobile kitchen chefs are assisted by local residents who are also acutely aware of the current situation and want to contribute to a good cause. This good deed is about the needs of thousands of Ukrainians, so it continues with the help of a powerful team of cooks and their assistants who, despite the security challenges, do their job responsibly and deliciously.
As a reminder, during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Committee, together with partners from the Association SAFE, we managed to strengthen the project by providing the team of the NGO "Iskra Dobra" with a support vehicle for the food truck. And at the beginning of the initiative, the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya provided the mission with a powerful generator, which allows not to worry about the functionality of the kitchen in the absence of access to a centralized power grid.
