As part of the medical component of the project "Improving the Protection of Children in Emergencies in Ukraine by Providing Safe Shelters, Food and Non-Food Items, and Psychosocial Support", we continue to help domestic hospitals, especially those whose specialty is providing medical services to children.
This time, the humanitarian aid with essential medicines was donated to the Sumy Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital. Unfortunately, the border region of Sumy suffers daily from air strikes and mortar attacks by the russian federation. These circumstances cause significant trauma to the population, including children. Today, the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, a municipal non-profit enterprise of the Sumy Regional Council, is the largest multidisciplinary hospital in the region in terms of providing medical care to little patients. The institution serves about 150 000 children territorially and provides emergency (urgent) medical care to the children’s population, including the neonatal age.
The hospital has 370 inpatient beds, including 120 surgical beds, 231 therapeutic beds, and 19 intensive care beds. More than 15 thousand sick children receive inpatient care annually. The institution needs additional support to respond quickly to the challenges and threats of wartime.
The project "Improving the Protection of Children in Emergencies in Ukraine by Providing Safe Shelters, Food and Non-Food Items, and Psychosocial Support" is being implemented by the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya with the support of "terre des hommes Deutschland e.V." and funding from the German Federal Foreign Office.
