Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya received a request for help from the specialists of the Zakarpattya Emergency and Medical Catastrophe Centre, who needed special equipment to provide medical services to young patients.

According to doctors, every fifth ambulance call is for patients under the age of 18. In total, since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion, the emergency medical service in Zakarpattia has provided medical care to more than 300,000 patients, including 58,000 children. The workload of emergency medical workers has increased, among other things, due to the arrival of internally displaced persons in the region. Statistics show that medics are now responding to calls every fourth minute.

The doctors pay special attention to little patients, providing them with assistance and performing the necessary manipulations. To give children injections, it is important to have a non-contact transilluminator for venous puncture at hand, a device that can detect up to 80% of saphenous veins. The processed image of the vein is synchronously and accurately projected onto the skin, making it easy for the doctor to select the target vein for the injection. The devices also help to detect subcutaneous bleeding, varicose veins, spider veins, and other vascular diseases. For children, who have the hardest time finding veins for manipulation, the device is indispensable, as it will help avoid unnecessary painful procedures. Given the limited time and critical condition of children patients, it is extremely important to act quickly and have the necessary equipment available. The doctors immediately tested the two received contactless transilluminators on a colleague – everything works, is technically understandable, so the equipment is ready for use by emergency medical teams that will be responding to calls to children.

In addition to working in the communities of Zakarpattia, employees of the Zakarpattya Emergency and Medical Catastrophe Centre go on business trips as part of emergency medical teams and provide medical care to residents of areas where hostilities are taking place, in particular, in the Kherson region.

Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya purchased the necessary equipment as part of the project "Improving the Protection of Children in Emergencies in Ukraine by Providing Safe Shelters, Food and Non-Food Items, and Psychosocial Support", which is supported by "terre des hommes Deutschland e.V. " and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
