Psychosocial support during the war is an important part of our team’s work

Recently, the team of the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya held a seminar on psychosocial support for the staff of the Turya-Remeta Psychoneurological Boarding School. Psychologist Tetyana Hoydash and Lesya Levko, the Committee’s project coordinator, worked with the employees of the institution.

Through communication, the participants described the impact of the current situation in the country on their own psycho-emotional state, shared ways to overcome stress, listened to professional recommendations on techniques and methods to relieve tension, anxiety, fears, restore communication, adapt to the realities of martial law, etc. It turned out that it is primarily various forms of communication interaction that help to establish the fact of emotional exhaustion, accept it for further diagnosis and find ways to solve the problem.

This is not the first such training meeting. Previously, mental health, finding balance, developing collective cooperation and preserving one’s own resources during group interaction were discussed during a visit to the Vilshany Orphanage. All these activities are being implemented by the CAMZ team within the framework of the project "Improving the Protection of Children in Emergencies in Ukraine by Providing Safe Shelters, Food and Non-Food Items, and Psychosocial Support", which is being supported by "terre des hommes Deutschland e.V." and funded by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

Also as a reminder, in November 2023, the Medical Aid Committee in Zakarpattya organized a familiarization visit to Switzerland for Oksana Ihnatyzhak, director of the Turya-Remeta Psychoneurological Boarding School, where she and Swiss colleagues discussed their experience in implementing various areas of work of local social institutions.
